With Rashford’s loan spell at Barcelona drawing to a close and the Spanish giants unwilling to trigger the agreed-upon purchase option, a complicated summer transfer saga is taking shape that could yet present Vincent Kompany’s men with an opportunity to give the winger an escape route from Old Trafford to the Allianz Arena.
Rashford has enjoyed a productive season in Catalonia, registering 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions under Hansi Flick, with the Barcelona manager publicly approving of his performances and expressing a desire to retain him beyond the summer.
Barcelona hold an option to sign Rashford permanently for €30 million, but the Catalan club are reluctant to exercise it, preferring instead to explore either a second loan arrangement or a reduced permanent fee, terms that Manchester United are currently unwilling to accept.
That standoff has opened the door to other suitors. United must now decide whether to grant Barcelona a second loan or hold out for a permanent sale, a decision that could directly determine whether Bayern Munich enter the conversation in earnest.
The German champions have been monitoring Rashford’s situation, though their primary focus this summer has been on securing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, for whom a fee in the region of £80 million has been quoted.
For United, the priority is straightforward. Rashford is valued at around £40 million, and the club are determined to secure a permanent departure rather than sanction another loan that would delay the inevitable and further reduce his residual value.
