Leeds United have announced that Patrick Bamford is set to leave Elland Road after reaching an agreement to terminate his contract.
He had a year left on his contract, but manager Daniel Farke made it clear earlier in the summer that the striker is not in his plans.
Bamford is now a free agent and will be looking to continue his career elsewhere. He is unlikely to be short of suitors from lower divisions.
Some of his former teammates at Leeds have taken to social media to react to the news.
Bamford joined Leeds from Middlesbrough in 2018. He played a key role in helping them secure Premier League promotion in 2019-20 after scoring 16 goals in the Championship.
Leeds impressed in the English top-flight in 2020-21, with the striker notching 17 league goals to help the Whites finish ninth in the table.
Bamford earned one England cap for his performances but has struggled with injuries since, losing his form and place in the Leeds attack.
He played 205 times in seven years at the club, scoring 60 goals, and he will go down in history as a fans’ favourite.
The Whites have strengthened their squad since returning to the Premier League, and more signings could be secured before the transfer deadline on Monday.
