“When a coach like Mourinho calls you, it’s something to be proud of. He wrote to me and then called me. That he calls you and tells you things, it is very important. I am looking forward to working with him. I’m in a great moment and I’m really looking forward to playing for Real Madrid. It’s a great challenge. All the Real Madrid players are good. Fitting in at Real Madrid is not easy. You have to be at 100% every game. All the teams want to beat you.”

Cucurella: I’ll get on well with Vinicius Junior

Cucurella will be Real Madrid’s starting left-back next season, meaning he will link up with Vinicius Junior ahead of him. He’s excited at this prospect, as he talked up the Brazilian winger.

“I think I’ll get on well with him. I don’t care if he doesn’t come back (to defend), I’ll do everything he doesn’t want. As long as he’s decisive and fresh to score goals, I’ll do the dirty work. Vinicius has shown that he’s a decisive and influential player in Real Madrid’s Champions League.”

Cucurella hopes Real Madrid sign Enzo Fernandez

Cucurella was also asked about the prospect of Real Madrid signing former Chelsea teammate Enzo Fernandez alongside him this summer.

“He’s a great player as well as a friend of mine. He congratulated me on the signing. Hopefully it will be done. I would be very happy. At Chelsea we have been very happy and have the opportunity to sign both of us for the same summer for Real Madrid. I hope he gets lucky and becomes a Real Madrid player.”
