Manchester United manager Marc Skinner praised Jayde Riviere and Hinata Miyazawa following their 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s Super League.
“You can tell by my face that just having Hini [Miyazawa] in any team she just knows where to be, it’s her football brain,” the boss said.
Riviere dominated down the right for the duration of the clash. The head coach reflected: “Jayde is an ultra-attacking full-back that gives you extra variance on that side.”
Providing his initial reaction to the narrow victory, Skinner explained: “It wasn’t an exhilarating game by any means. Some of the games haven’t been this weekend. For us it was just about control, I felt we had quite a lot. Tottenham had a couple of moments but that was all they had in the game, really.
“Second half, they probably started a little bit better than us but we changed up, got a little bit more energy in the team and then I felt again we had control right to the end.”
Skinner touched on his journey as a manager, saying: “I’m learning more as I get probably into my eighth and ninth season as a coach. I’m learning more about my team, how to deal with humans, failures and success.”
The Red Devils boss also reflected on the progress of his side and Spurs since they both joined England’s top flight.
“There’s a weight that goes with being a Man United team,” Skinner said. “No disrespect to Tottenham, we are the biggest club in the world. When you want to win games, you’ve got to find ways and we fit that around the style of our players. What I love about this team is we have the true DNA of a Man United team.”
Manchester United now prepare to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup. They then host Crystal Palace in the WSL on Sunday, February 16th.
