Marcelino García Toral was immortalised at Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday as Villarreal unveiled a plaque on the Passeig Groc. The tribute came before the club's final match of the 2025/26 season.
Marcelino unveiled the commemorative tile an hour and a half before kick-off against Atlético Madrid on matchday 38, shortly after the team arrived at the stadium, according to El Periódico Mediterráneo.
He was joined by president Fernando Roig, chief executive Fernando Roig Negueroles, directors Luis Espejo, Juan Mechó and Manuel Montaña, and club ambassador Marcos Senna.
Supporters on Blasco Ibañez Street gave him a warm ovation. The tribute was to continue after the meeting with Atlético.
Marcelino will end his spell as the coach with the most matches in the club's history, 298, and with a record 145 wins, pending the result against Atlético. He has led the team across seven seasons in two spells, 2013 to 2016 and 2023 to 2026, delivering a return to the Spanish top flight in 2013 and five European qualifications in the Champions League and Europa League.
