LA Galaxy have defeated Real Salt Lake 2-1 in Sunday's MLS matchup, thanks to a brace of set-piece goals from Marco Reus.
Scorers: Reus 9', 85' ; Marcinkowski 45+4' (OG)
After a strong attacking start, the Galaxy were awarded an early free-kick on the edge of the box. Reus stepped up and fired a perfectly dipping free-kick up and over the RSL wall.
Both sides created dangerous first-half chances as RSL forced a point-blank save from JT Marcinkowski on one end, and the Galaxy forced a crucial block from Justen Glad on the other.
Eventually, Real Salt Lake equalised in first-half stoppage-time as Zavier Gozo's strike deflected off the post, off the goalkeeper's back and into the back of the net. Due to the deflection, the equaliser went down as an own-goal for Marcinkowski.
Then, late in the match, LA Galaxy were awarded a penalty after RSL defender Sam Junqua pulled down a player in the box. Reus stepped up again and slotted a low, well-placed penalty beyond the goalkeeper's reach to regain the host's lead.
Including tonight's brace, the 36-year-old has only scored ten goals in 37 MLS matches, since joining LA Galaxy in late 2024.
At full-time, the Galaxy moved to tenth in the Western Conference, sitting just outside the playoff spots on goal difference.
Real Salt Lake, on the other hand, remain sixth in the west. However, they are now winless in their last 11 matches on the road against LA Galaxy.
