Marcos Braz and Eduardo Bandeira de Mello enter Rio election races | OneFootball

Two former Flamengo executives are seeking votes in this year's Rio de Janeiro elections. Marcos Braz is running for federal deputy, while Eduardo Bandeira de Mello is bidding to keep his seat in the Chamber.

Braz, the club's former vice-president, has joined PSDB to contest the race. He had a single term as a Rio city councillor with PL, but did not win re-election.

Bandeira de Mello has sat in the Chamber since 2023. He has joined PV as he looks to maintain his mandate. The 73-year-old also considered a 2024 run for the Flamengo presidency, but did not move forward.

Braz has been a familiar backstage figure at Flamengo since the 2000s. He rose to the vice-presidency in 2019 and remained in post until 2024. After controversies and an electoral defeat, he worked at Remo, leaving the Pará side in February this year.

Bandeira de Mello is considered one of the figures behind Flamengo's financial restructuring. His presidency, however, delivered only one major trophy, the 2013 Copa do Brasil.

Under Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, in his first year at the helm, Flamengo won the Libertadores and Brasileirão. The club also reached a final against PSG of France, which was settled on penalties.
