Flamengo are monitoring the situation of Marcos Leonardo, whose Al Hilal future is in flux during the current window.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the striker is seeking payment of all remaining wages from the Saudi club, relying on a FIFA rule.

That regulation, applied by the Saudi federation, allows a player not registered in domestic competitions to rescind his contract with full payment of agreed sums. His camp are exploring options as a result.

His representatives aim to secure free-agent status, and to obtain about 20 million euros, roughly R$124 million, from Al Hilal.

Flamengo are keeping a watching brief, and any deal would not depend solely on them. The player’s camp first want to resolve matters with Al Hilal before deciding his next step.

European clubs are also monitoring him. Atlético de Madrid tabled an offer, but his entourage rejected it due to a proposed salary reduction.

Leonardo has not been used by Inzaghi, who does not consider him suited to a pressing game. The decision has drawn fan pressure because he is the team’s top scorer this season.

Meanwhile, Flamengo prepare to face Vitória on Tuesday 10, in the third round of the Brasileirão, at 21:30 Brasília time at Barradão.
