Manchester United are sweating on the future of Marcus Rashford, who spent the last season on loan at Barcelona. The English forward was a huge hit at Camp Nou, helping the Catalans win the league and the Supercopa de Espana.
Rashford finished his loan spell with 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish champions.

However, the 28 year old’s performances have not been enough to secure him an extended stay at Camp Nou. Barcelona have the option to sign the player permanently for €30 million this summer, but are reportedly trying to get a deal done for less.
Rashford’s impressive run with the Catalans ensures that he is not short of suitors at the moment. However, a second chance at Old Trafford remains unlikely.
United identified the attack as an area that needed urgent attention following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, during which they scored just 44 times in 38 league games and finished 15th. The 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final further added to fans’ frustration.
The Red Devils revamped their frontline last summer, cashing in on Alejandro Garnacho and Antony, while sending Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Rasmus Hojlund out on loan. The English giants also invested over £200 million in Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha.
The move paid off, with United scoring 69 goals in 38 league games and finishing third in the Premier League table this season. While the Red Devils remain on the hunt for further attacking reinforcements this summer, Rashford is no longer on their agenda.
The Englishman had a very public fallout with former head coach Ruben Amorim and it would appear that INEOS are ready to cut ties permanently this summer. While Barcelona are biding their time over a move, interest in the player is mounting, especially from the Premier League.
A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person states that Newcastle United are ready to offer Rashford an escape route from the Theatre of Dreams. An update on that story has now emerged.
According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United have no plans to take Rashford to St James’ Park. The report states: “The Manchester United man is said to be available for £26m, a fee that Barcelona have so far opted against paying but his £300,000 per week wages at Old Trafford appear to be complicating any outgoing deal from the Red Devils.”
“Rashford is still under contract until 2028 and has no future with Michael Carrick’s side after spending last term with Barca.”
“A drop in wages is feasible, but Newcastle chiefs believe their name is being dragged into speculation to drum up further interest in the striker. Given some of the demands that are being bandied around on the agent scene, Newcastle are not in a position to bust their wage budget for a signing of Rashford’s stature.”
A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that United are ready to throw in the towel and accept Barcelona’s reduced proposal for Rashford. The Red Devils should get a deal over the line as soon as possible to avoid it becoming a distraction as the summer progresses.
