Enzo Maresca revealed he has “no idea” about Ben Chilwell’s future but admitted there’s a chance the England international could leave this month.

The Blues aren’t expected to be busy in the January window, with the primary focus set to be on outgoings and the club are keen to find solutions for the likes of Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka, whilst Cesare Casadei is also attracting interest.

However, Chelsea’s plans could change with the news that Wesley Fofana could miss the rest of the season, whilst Benoit Badiashile is out until February, leaving the Blues light in defence.

Maresca has no idea about Chilwell future

The Blues paid £50m for Chiwell back in 2020 and the left back has been a great servant for the club even though he’s been plagued by injury issues.

The 27-year-old played a key role as the Blues won the Champions League for the second time in 2021 and he’s made 107 appearances for the club.

However, it was made clear to Chilwell in pre-season he wasn’t part of the plans and it would be better for him to move on.

Despite that Chilwell remained at the club and is now back training with the first team, but he’s only played 45 minutes of football this season in the Carabao Cup against Barrow.

Maresca was asked about the Englishman and stated he had no idea about his future, although did admit it’s a possibility he could leave.

“No idea, to be honest. In terms of the transfer window, generally there are players that probably they are going to leave but not sure at the moment,” he told his pre match press conference.

Maresca was then pressed on whether Chilwell could leave this month to which he responded:

“[He] could, yeah.”

Chelsea need to resolve the situation because it’s not helping anyone as Chilwell is just becoming a depreciating asset and whilst he’s not playing it’s hard to attract any potential suitors.
