Enzo Maresca has confirmed that injured Chelsea forward Liam Delap has a ‘long way to go’ in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Delap sustained the issue in the 2-0 win over Fulham before the international break. The England u-21 international has avoided surgery on the injury, though reports last week of November timeline to return have been dismissed by Maresca.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash against Brentford, Maresca said he expects Delap to be out for around three months, insisting the striker has a ‘long way’ to go in his recovery.

“Liam Delap will be out for 10/12 weeks, unfortunately it’s long way to go,” Maresca said at his pre-match press conference.

After allowing Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku to leave late in the window, Chelsea opted to recall Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland.

The Spanish teenager has rejoined the Chelsea ranks to provide cover for Joao Pedro at centre-forward.
