Enzo Maresca has hailed the performance of his players after Chelsea thrashed Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to win the FIFA Club World Cup.
Chelsea were crowned world champions at the MetLife Stadium after a brilliant first-half performance against the Champions League winners.
Cole Palmer was the star of the show with two trademark finishes into the far corner, before teeing up Joao Pedro for his third goal in two Chelsea games.
Paris Saint-Germain had been chasing a quintet of trophies after a stunning 2024/25 season, while the French and European champions had thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-final.
However, Maresca’s tactical plan played out to perfection, with PSG struggling to deal with the Chelsea press and direct passes in behind their attacking full-backs.
Discussing his side’s triumph, Maresca said Chelsea had beaten the side he considers the best in world football right now.
“It was a fantastic reaction,” he said, as per the club’s official website.
“Being Club World Cup champions is something we have to be very proud of.
“We are very happy. Especially for doing it against PSG. As I said before, I consider them the best team in the world with one of the best managers in the world, fantastic players. So it was a top achievement.
“Had you told me we were going to be winning 3-0 in the first half, of course I would not have expected that, but I knew we were going to compete because that’s what we’re here for. I know that our squad can really compete against really talented teams.
“We are very happy. I have always said we are proud to be here playing in this competition. We spent one month here and in the end it was worth it.”
