Mariano Díaz could find a way back at Deportivo Alavés as the possible departure of head coach Eduardo Coudet to River Plate, and the imminent arrival of Quique Sánchez Flores, could change the picture. According to Superdeporte, a switch in the dugout could reopen the door for the striker.

The Spanish-Dominican forward joined in summer 2025 after leaving Real Madrid, hoping to revive his career. He saw early minutes in La Liga and impressed in the Copa del Rey, then was frozen out in December after walking out of training when left out of the starting line-up.

That episode preceded 13 matches without a call-up, a spell his camp view as marginalisation by Coudet. His salary, close to two million gross per season, has added to the unease around his case.

Díaz has consulted the Asociación de Futbolistas Españoles (AFE) about the legality of his exclusion. He is keeping faith that he can be restored to the first team if circumstances shift.

For now, he awaits clarity on his status at Alavés after a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
