Omar Marmoush was on the scoresheet as he helped Egypt secure their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-2 win over Ivory Coast.
The City winger opened the scoring after just four minutes played.
Ivory Coast lost the ball inside their own half, allowing Emam Ashour to play a low through ball on to Marmoush, who advanced inside the box and sent a low finish past Yahia Fofana.
Marmoush then had the chance to double his tally as Mohamed Salah played him in behind the defenders, but he was unlucky to mistime his run and get flagged for offside.
It was clear Egypt were playing a front two of Marmoush and Salah and the pair were working well with Ashour in the hole behind them to carve out opportunities.
And it was Salah’s corner which would set up Egypt’s second goal.
The Liverpool forward curled his cross to the far post, where Ramy Rabia rose the highest to send a superb header back across goal and into the far corner of the net.
But the Pharoes were far from out of the woods as Ivory Coast pulled one back before half-time courtesy of a Ahmed Abou El Fotouh own-goal.
Salah restored the two goal lead in the second 45, before it was reduced again by Guela Doue.
Ivory Coast looked to ignite another comeback, but it was Egypt who booked a place in the semi-final with Senegal on Wednesday.
