Marseille join rivals Lyon in race to sign Himad Abdelli | OneFootball

Olympique de Marseille have joined fierce rivals Olympique Lyonnais in the race to sign SCO Angers playmaker Himad Abdelli (26), according to a report from Foot Mercato. 

Abdelli was excellent for Angers last season, proving to be the creative spark in a side that defied expectations to comfortably steer clear of relegation from Ligue 1. He missed the start of this season due to injury, but since returning, he has once again been influential for Alexandre Dujeux’s side. His two goals in 13 games do not do justice to the impact that the Algerian has in the attacking department.

His importance, however, was recognised by the Algeria national team, who have called the playmaker up to their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad, following the withdrawal of Houssem Aouar due to injury. 

With AFCON ongoing, interest in his services is growing. Whilst OL are looking to sign the player for a €1m fee, benefiting from his contract situation (his current deal expires at the end of the season), OM have also now entered the race and expressed their interest. It will be up to the player to decide his destination.
