L’Équipe reports that Olympique Marseille have contacted the entourage of Bayer Leverkusen attacker Amine Adli to discuss a possible transfer. The Moroccan international has also been linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Ligue 1 outfit may nevertheless have the upper hand in pursuit of the Bundesliga professional. Adli is French born and has experience working with Marseille executive Mehdi Benatia.
Adli declared himself open to the possibility of a transfer earlier this summer, but it remains questionable that Leverkusen will let him go so easily. At present, newly appointed Leverkusen head coach Erik ten Hag presides over a severely undersized squad of just 24 professionals. Germany’s red company team can hardly expect to compete in the Bundesliga, let alone internationally, with such a small personnel pool.
Leverkusen themselves have plans to shore up the squad and are very unlikely to allow more players to depart at this point. Adli, like his club teammate Nathan Tella, is one of the players frequently used out-of-position by previous B04 head coach Xabi Alonso. Ten Hag has made an effort to placate Tella and Adli by playing them further forward in a modified 3-4-3 during Leverkusen’s pre-season friendlies.
