Marseille players would be keen to welcome Adrien Rabiot (30) back into Roberto De Zerbi’s fold, according to TF1. The France international midfielder has been excluded from the Italian’s squad and even put on the transfer list on the back of a changing room bust-up with Jonathan Rowe. The former PSG Academy graduate and the England youth international came to blow in the Roazhon Park’s away dressing room in the aftermath of Marseille’s opening day 1-0 away loss to Rennes.
Both players have been sanctioned, and Rowe even left Marseille to sign for Serie A club Bologna. But another twist followed when De Zerbi seemingly offered Rabiot a way back onto the squad after OM’s 5-2 home win against promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC. The Italian head coach said he hoped for “an opportunity to rebuild things.“
According to TF1, Marseille’s decision-makers did not expect De Zerbi’s apparent change of heart regarding Rabiot’s exclusion. The report adds that Rabiot remains a popular figure among the players, who are reportedly keen for his return. Marseille will face bitter rivals Lyon next week for the Choc des Olympiques.
