Ligue 1 giants Marseille have submitted an offer to sign West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd this summer (h/t Foot Mercato).
Having qualified for the Champions League next season, Marseille are planning to add more reinforcements in the transfer window to build a strong squad.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi wants to strengthen the backline, with Aguerd cropping up as the latest target.
Aguerd joined the Hammers in 2022 from Rennes on the back of a stellar World Cup tournament in Qatar, where Morocco reached the semi-finals.
However, the Moroccan centre-back struggled for minutes at the London Stadium, which saw him seek a season-long loan move to Real Sociedad last summer.
The 29-year-old has become a regular for La Real Real this season, featuring in 36 games in all competitions.
After being impressed by his performances, the Basque club are considering a permanent move for Aguerd, who has a contract with Hammers until June 2027.
Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen are also monitoring the former Rennes star, who, instead, prefers a move to Marseille after being convinced by De Zerbi’s project.
Marseille have also identified Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Nelson Semedo as a potential target on a free transfer.
With Leonardo Balerdi linked with clubs like Roma, Juventus and Lyon, Les Minots are keen on recruiting a top-level central defender.
Marseille are inching closer towards signing LOSC Lille midfielder Angel Gomes on a free transfer. They have reached an agreement in principle with the former Manchester United star on a three-year deal after beating West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer race.
The French giants are scouring the market for offensive reinforcements, with Nantes striker Matthis Abline and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta among the top targets.
