Leicester City are reported to be chasing the Swedish international Anton Salétros of AIK, but face a challenge from the Italian club Hellas Verona.

Leicester City are trying to secure the signing of Swedish international midfielder Anton Salétros but will be facing competition from the Italian club Hellas Verona.

With three wins from their first four Championship matches, Leicester City have made a solid start to their bid to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Foxes have lost a number of their players over the course of the summer transfer window, and need reinforcements before the summer transfer window closes.

And now the Foxes are reported to have turned their attention to central midfielder Anton Salétros, who plays in the Allsvenskan for the Stockholm-based club AIK, and who's been capped 15 times by the Sweden national team. But they're not alone in their interest in the player, who has also played in Hungary, Russia, Norway and France.

Leicester and Verona ready to make bids for Anton Salétros

Anel Avdic of the Swedish news outlet Sport Expressen has reported on the social media platform X that Leicester are ready to make a bid for Anton Salétros with a view to take the player to The King Power Stadium before the closure of this summer's transfer window.

But he also warns that Leicester aren't the only team interested in the player. He reports that the Italian club Hellas Verona are also preparing a bid for the player. Verona finished the 2024-25 season in 14th place in Serie A and drew their opening game of the new season last weekend against Udinese.

Leicester have already lost Mads Hermansen, Kasey McAteer, James Justin, Conor Coady, Wilfred Ndidi, Jamie Vardy and others over the course of the summer, while goalkeeper Asmir Begovic remains their only signing so far. Although they've had a strong start to the season, further reinforcements are needed for what promises to be a competitive season in the Championship as the Foxes seek to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Verona may prove stiff opposition for Leicester's Anton Salétros plans

Although he currently plays his football in his home country of Sweden, Anton Salétros is certainly used to playing his football abroad. He first joined AIK in 2010 and signed senior terms with them three years later, but spent a short period on loan in Hungary with Ujpest before joining the Russian side FC Rostov in 2018.

He had a brief period back on loan from them in 2019, and another with the Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08, before going to France to play for Caen, returning to AIK in 2023. Now 29-years-old, the midfielder has been capped 15 times by the Sweden national team. He also made appearances for their under-17, under-19 and under-21 teams.

Having already played abroad in four different countries, Salétros would bring a lot of experience to The King Power Stadium, but interest from Verona, who can offer top-flight football this season in Serie A, could prove to be a challenge to the Foxes' hopes of bringing the player in before the closure of this summer's transfer window.

But Leicester have already lost a lot of experience over the summer, and bringing in this much-travelled midfielder could be a strong solution as they seek to bolster their numbers ahead of Monday's deadline.
