Mikel Arteta is unsure if injured Martin Odegaard will be fit for Arsenal’s Champions League opener against Athletic Club next week.
The Gunners welcomed Odegaard back to the starting line-up against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, after the skipper was named among the substitutes for the 1-0 loss at Liverpool in the game before the international break.
Odegaard appeared to land awkwardly on his shoulder as a result of a tackle from team-mate Jurrien Timber, who was attempting to win the ball back off Morgan Gibbs-White on the edge of Forest’s box.
It appeared to be another shoulder injury, a repeat to the damage Odegaard sustained in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Leeds last month.
Asked after the game for an update on his skipper, Arteta said: “I think ie's the same shoulder that he [injured] last time. He was uncomfortable to continue. So, that's a shame. He played with the national team, he was feeling good, and suddenly something happened again."
Asked if Odegaard would be fit for Tuesday's clash with Athletic, Arteta said: "He will certainly be doing everything from now on to be ready for today. I guarantee you that, but I don't know."
