Martin Odegaard suffered another shoulder injury during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at home in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Gunners captain started in the Premier League for the first time since last month when he left the pitch injured during the 5-0 win over Leeds United.

Odegaard returned to action eight days later, coming off the bench for the final 20 minutes of their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

The midfielder subsequently started twice for Norway over the international break, but is now facing another spell on the sidelines after being forced off the pitch and replaced by Ethan Nwaneri in the 18th minute.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed that Odegaard’s injury is similar to the one he sustained earlier this season, but is hopeful he won’t take long to recover.

“Very similar injury and he’s played two games with Norway and unfortunately he cannot continue,” he said.

Asked if the issue will require surgery, Arteta said: “No, certainly not. Last time in a few days he was able to manage the pain.”

Meanwhile, William Saliba missed the game despite returning to training this week. The French centre-back rolled his ankle in the warm-up ahead of the Liverpool game, which he started anyway but only lasted a few minutes.

“He trained yesterday and I spoke to him afterwards and he said I think I need a few more days,” Arteta revealed.

He added: “With the injuries that we have, very difficult to control. We knew that’s the standard with other teams that are in Europe.”
