After an intense run of away fixtures, Celtic have been able to enjoy a rare midweek with no matches ahead of this Saturday's clash against Motherwell at Celtic Park.
That free midweek has given the Hoops more time to rest, recover and prepare in the build-up to Saturday afternoon’s match and it has given Martin O’Neill a chance to reflect on the Hoops’ recent exertions and on his own admiration for the efforts that the players have put in to secure positive results.
Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of the weekend’s match, the Celtic manager said: “I couldn’t be more proud of the team.
“They’ve shown great resilience, great character, all the words that you normally associate with sides who come through a period like this.
“It was really tough I must admit. I had a look at it particularly when the rearranged game against Aberdeen fell in there.
‘You’re travelling away to Stuttgart, Ibrox and then Aberdeen on the Wednesday, that was three games in six days.’
“And then the fourth game we had in a 10 day period was Ibrox again in the cup.
“But to come through in the manner that the team did, it was a nice sign that they are prepared to battle and compete.”

The Hoops go in to Saturday’s match against Motherwell in second place in the Scottish Premiership table, with an opportunity to cut the deficit to Hearts to two points before the Edinburgh side take on Kilmarnock later on Saturday night.
Three points will be hard to come by for Celtic, however, with Motherwell, who have been in good form this season, still reeling from their defeat at the hands of Dundee last weekend and Martin O’Neill says that he expects a tough test when the Steelmen come to Glasgow’s East End on Saturday afternoon.
“It will be a major test for us.” The Celtic manager said. “We can go in to the game with some confidence because of the recent results.
“Myself, Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham went to Dens Park last weekend to see them against Dundee and that result was a setback for them but they’ll come here with loads of confidence.
“They could easily be the best footballing side at this minute so they’ll come and play without fear, so it’s up to us be up to the test.”
