Mason Greenwood skipped French lessons imposed by Marseille amid growing frustrations | OneFootball

Olympique de Marseille forward Mason Greenwood reportedly resisted attending French lessons organised by the club, according to a report from L’Équipe, with frustrations over the Englishman’s behaviour said to have intensified internally over the course of the season.

The French outlet claims that Greenwood skipped several classes and internal meetings during his time at La Commanderie, arguing that English was already widely spoken within the Marseille dressing room. OM officials are said to have repeatedly attempted to convince the former Manchester United player to engage more fully with the initiative, at times even issuing fines in an effort to change his stance.

L’Équipe reports that members of the Marseille hierarchy have become increasingly frustrated with what they perceive as Greenwood’s lack of investment and gratitude after the club offered him the opportunity to relaunch his career following his departure from Manchester United.

The report also details wider tensions behind the scenes. Greenwood is said to have become a recurring source of frustration for successive coaching staffs because of what has been described as an individualistic attitude.
