Deserved victory: Borussia Dortmund had slightly more possession (52%), but had almost twice as many shots as Athletic Club (13-7). Eight of the 13 Dortmund attempts were on target, and four made it past Unai Simon.
Goal fest: For the 16th time, BVB celebrated four or more goals in a Champions League match, doing so in two consecutive matches for the first time, following up the 4-4 draw in Turin with a 4-1 win against Bilbao.
Big win Borussia have only matched their 4-1 victory in the Champions League one other time, and it came against another Spanish team as they beat Sevilla four years ago.
Goalscorer: Erling Haaland had the most goals to his name after 20 Champions League games. The Norwegian scored 25 times (six goals for Salzburg, then 13 goals for Borussia Dortmund, then six more for Manchester City). Haaland is followed by a trio with 16 goals from 20 games: Roberto Soldado, Ruud van Nistelrooy and now Serhou Guirassy. Fifth on the list is Harry Kane (15).
First goals: Daniel Svensson and Carney Chukwuemeka each scored their first goal in the UEFA Champions League. (br)
