Brentford Under-21s will face Watford Under-21s on Saturday afternoon in the Professional Development League at Wheatsheaf Park (2pm kick-off GMT).

After an unlucky draw in midweek, Sam Saunders’ side will be aiming to return to winning ways and rediscover the form that saw them go on a five-match unbeaten run in the league earlier this season.

The young Bees’ last outing came against Charlton Athletic at Princes Park Stadium, where they were held to a 1-1 draw despite a confident performance.

Romelle Donovan impressed as he opened the scoring with a superb solo effort after weaving past several defenders and finishing clinically.

Brentford looked in control for much of the contest and created several chances to extend their advantage, but were made to pay late on when a moment of miscommunication at the back allowed Bradley Tagoe to level the score in second-half stoppage time.

Despite the late setback, there were plenty of positives for Saunders to take, with the side again showing attacking creativity and composure in possession.

The draw followed a narrow defeat in their previous league fixture, meaning the Bees are without a win in two but remain within touching distance of the top of the table after a strong start to the campaign.

Brentford will now look to build on those performances as they return home for Saturday’s meeting with the Hornets. The young Bees will be eager to convert their recent positive displays into three points as they continue their push in the Professional Development League.

About Watford

Watford come into Saturday’s fixture sitting sixth in the Professional Development League table, having picked up five wins, four draws and four defeats from their 13 matches so far.

The Hornets have shown consistency throughout the campaign and currently occupy a place in the top half of the standings. However, with just a small gap separating the sides, a victory at Wheatsheaf Park would see the young Bees climb above their opponents in the table.
