Tonight was a huge clash in the second leg Carabao Cup semi-final when Spurs travelled to Anfield where they would hopefully join Newcastle United on March 16th for the final at Wembley.
Spurs haven't won any kind of major silverware since 2008 when they won the same competition and tonight they hoped to hold onto their one-goal lead from the first leg.
New signing Kevin Danso was handed a debut, with Micky van de Ven reportedly being setback with his injury again, whilst other new boy Mathys Tel was on the bench.
Spurs were still without a number of key names such as Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie.
The full lineup was as followed: Kinský, Gray, Danso, Davies, Spence, Sarr, Bissouma, Bentancur, Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son (c).
Not too much to report on the first half hour, except Liverpool having the odd chance, but the stubborn Spurs defence were always there to throw their bodies in the way.
It was a very open period, despite the lack of chances, with both teams threatening to cause problems for each other's backlines via counter attacks.
Nuñez then had half a chance with a header that was straight down the throat of Kinsky, after a good cross from Gakpo.
The hosts then had the ball in the net, with talisman Mohamed Salah threading an eye-of-the-needle pass through to Dominik Szoboszlai, who took his chance, but Spurs' blushes were saved by the offside flag.
Just a few minutes later, Liverpool would have the ball in the net again, and this time the flag wouldn't save them.
After some sloppy play in the middle of the park it was picked up by the Reds, and Salah played a beautiful trivela pass that made its way to the back post for Dutchman Cody Gakpo who cooly finished.
Spurs would finally have half a chance of their own as the half was nearly up, with Dejan Kulusevski having a hopeful shot from range which sailed over the bar.
Liverpool would nearly make it two on the stroke of 45, once again great work by Gakpo on the left who crossed it to the back stick and Salah would volley his effort into the ground, which was well saved by Kinsky.
Spurs not happy about the fact Richalison went down injured just before that, forcing Spurs into a change, with Mathys Tel making his debut sooner than he probably expected.
Richarlison headed straight down the tunnel and received a handful of sarcastic cheers from the home crowd, who isn't their favourite player being a former Evertonian.
1-0 to Liverpool at the break and as it stands the game heading to extra time, and Postecoglou would have been fairly content with his teams performance.
Liverpool would nearly get off to the perfect start when Andy Robertson whipped in a corner that was headed by Dominik Szoboszlai from point-blank range but was superbly saved by Kinsky in the Spurs goal.
The hosts would pile the pressure on again, this time Salah played a ball round the back of the Spurs defence and Darwin Nuñez would just about get their first to take it round Kinský who brought him down.
Penalty to Liverpool. The usual penalty taker Salah would step up and inevitably score, smashing the ball in the top left. No chance for the keeper and now Spurs were desperate for a goal or they were heading out.
Just after the hour mark Szoboszlai would play it down the left of the penalty area for Gakpo to shoot across goal but his effort skimmed the upright, if Spurs were to come back in this game then that would be the turning point.
Ange's team let off the hook. Spurs would be warned again as Liverpool formed another counter, that was slowed down but a pass was laid off to Gravenberch on the edge of the box, where he struck the post.
However, you can't keep getting away with these warnings, as Liverpool finally would make it 3. Connor Bradley would received the ball just outside the box where he played a first-time pass to Szoboszlai, who took a touch before calmly finishing under the helpless Kinský.
Captain Heung-Min Son would have a chance of his own to pull Spurs back into the game, a lovely pass from Tel down the left would leave the South Korean one vs one with Konate, he blasted his effort from a very narrow angle but he was ever so unfortunate as he hit the bar before it eventually went out for a throw in on the other side of the pitch.
The night would end up going from bad to worse for Spurs, a beautifully whipped in corner from substitue Alexis Mac Allister was met by the header of captain Virgil van Dijk. 4-0 to Liverpool and they were heading back to Wembley to try and retain their triumph from last season.
A horrid night for Spurs but it just shows how good Liverpool are. The wait for major silverware for Spurs goes on, and they'll have to put tonight behind them quickly as they have a huge FA Cup tie away at Aston Villa on Sunday.
Lose that and pressure could be on Postecoglou, as it would mean the Europa League will be their only hope of a trophy this season.
An awful night for the 6,000 Spurs fans that made the long trip to Anfield, but sometimes you have to admit when a team is too good.
Tonight was one of them nights. Liverpool were hugely impressive like they have been all season and are the best team in the country, and maybe the world. Sometimes, there is simply nothing you can do.
