Matheus Pereira celebrates return to Corinthians: "Very proud"

Early Tuesday afternoon (20), midfielder Matheus Pereira was officially presented to the fans and the press at CT Doutor Joaquim Grava, even though the player had already made his re-debut in the black-and-white shirt over the weekend in a 1-1 draw against São Paulo.

At the press conference, the midfielder recalled how the negotiation went and his happiness at already having made his debut: “I’ve known about Corinthians’ interest for a long time... My whole family supports Corinthians, I’m a Corinthians fan, being able to wear this shirt again. I was a bit anxious for the debut, to see the fans, to be on the same side again, it’s a great source of pride for me and my family.”

Recalling the controversy of the missed penalty in the 2016 Copa São Paulo final, the player made a point of emphasizing that he is a completely different athlete now: “Well, of course I didn’t want to miss that penalty, but I believe that, above all, it made me mature a lot, as a person, as a player, it taught me a lot. So, thanks to that mistake, so to speak, I was able to change my attitude, I was able to change many things and today I am a totally different Matheus, more prepared, so I’m happy to be here.”

It’s worth noting that the deal for Matheus Pereira will involve a payment of 1.8 million reais for a loan, paid in 12 installments, in addition to a fixed purchase option of 10.8 million. The value of the loan and the salaries of fellow midfielder Ryan Gustavo will be deducted from the total purchase amount if Corinthians decides to make the deal permanent, as detailed firsthand by Central do Timão.
