Matheuzinho and debutant shine in Corinthians win at Maracanã

Corinthians defeated Fluminense in a direct clash in the Brasileirão and moved up to the top half of the table. As usual, the club released the behind-the-scenes video of the victory, starting with the players arriving in the locker room, followed by the pre-match talk with Matheuzinho and Hugo Souza.

“Those wearing this jersey shouldn't be satisfied with just a few victories, no. We have to be satisfied with always winning. We always have to be at the top. To be someone in life, to build legacies, we have to always be at the top. Away or at home, it has to be the same”, said the full-back.

“First, understand what their strengths are and don't let them enjoy it. Here, pressing them all the time. It's a team that likes to keep the ball and we have a team to play too. We shouldn't be chasing the ball. But for that, when they have it, we need to have a lot of desire and passion to press them”, commented Hugo Souza, complementing his teammate.

The goal for Corinthians was scored by Matheuzinho from a free kick, in a confusing play with André Ramalho hindering the opposing goalkeeper. After the final whistle, the full-back spoke about the atmosphere for the match and the difficulty encountered.

“It was a very difficult game. It's very hot here today. We came from a very tough game on Wednesday against Athletico Paranaense, which really wore our team out. Thank God, we managed, and as I said now, we will have time to focus on the Brazilian league and aim for great things”, emphasized the number 2.

As he said in the press conference, Dorival highlighted the importance of the point but noted the need to stay focused after Corinthians failed to win other games at the start of the competition.

“We gave our all, we were dedicated, fought hard. And this is also because of the games where we dropped points, where we played very well, and suddenly, the result didn't come. Today, maybe because of our persistence. Due to our merit, the result we wanted happened. It was extremely important”, said the coach.

“We have to be aware of this. Let's celebrate, let's value this result, but above all, let's not lose our preparation. When I say preparation, I mean concentration. Because the sequence is very dangerous for us, and we cannot allow ourselves to return to that situation where, as the team mentioned now, we went five matches without conceding goals. That's very important”, added Dorival Júnior.

Besides the victory, Corinthians saw the debut of André Luiz as a professional player, making his first appearance in the senior team. In the behind-the-scenes video, he spoke about his feelings and expressed gratitude for the opportunity.

“First of all, I just have to thank God because everything He is doing in my life is truly inexplicable. And today, being able to debut professionally with the Corinthians jersey, a club I started with at ten years old, is extremely gratifying for me. I also thank my family, who are always with me every day: my mother, my grandmother, my friends,” he revealed.”, praised the young player.
