Matheuzinho hails Corinthians’ good run in the Campeonato Brasileiro

On the afternoon of last Sunday (2), Corinthians defeated Grêmio 2-0 in a match valid for the Brazilian Championship, held at Neo Química Arena. With the result, Timão achieved their third consecutive victory, a feat highly valued by right-back Matheuzinho, who highlighted the team's effort in recent rounds.

“This is the result of our work. In previous games, we performed well but ended up suffering draws or defeats due to small mistakes. Now, we are reaping what we sowed, the fruit of effort and dedication. These three consecutive victories show that we are on the right path. We need to keep going in this direction because we still have many important games ahead, and I believe everything tends to work out,” said the number 2 in the mixed zone.

Next, the player was asked about what the team needs to do to repeat a similar streak to the end of 2024, when Corinthians achieved nine consecutive victories and experienced one of the best moments of the season.

“It's about maintaining what we are doing. We talk a lot about the importance of not conceding goals, as it brings us closer to victory since our forwards and midfielders have a lot of quality to decide up front,” he added.

The right-back also emphasized the importance of defensive consistency, highlighting the role of the sector in recent positive results. “The defensive sector has closed well, and this has been fundamental: three consecutive victories and three games without conceding goals. If we maintain this focus, we can repeat that streak of nine victories, and we want to go further, to be strong both in the Brasileirão and in the Copa do Brasil,” he concluded.

With the triumph, Corinthians reached 42 points and temporarily rose to the ninth position in the Brazilian Championship. The result reduced the gap to five points from Fluminense, the team occupying the last spot in the G7, the group that guarantees qualification for the 2026 Libertadores.

Timão and Matheuzinho return to the field this Wednesday, November 5, at 7 PM, to face Red Bull Bragantino at Nabi Abi Chedid Stadium in Bragança Paulista, for the 32nd round of the Brazilian Championship.
