Sunderland are tracking Roma winger Matias Soule, with Premier League rivals Fulham also in the frame. The Black Cats want a first summer signing before their Europa League debut.
According to Sunderland Echo, initial enquiries have been made about the 23-year-old. His representative, Martin Ariel Guastadisegno, has travelled to England for talks with Sunderland and Fulham over a possible deal, with Roma understood to want around £30m.
So far the window has brought only exits, with Eliezer Mayenda joining Rennes, Dan Neil moving to Rangers and Nazariy Rusyn to Karpaty Lviv.
Born in Argentina, Soule joined Juventus in 2020 after spells with Kimberley and Velez Sarsfield. He featured for Juve’s Under-23s in 2021, debuted for the first team that November and scored against Sampdoria the following season, totalling 21 senior appearances.
A season on loan at Frosinone in 2023/24 yielded 11 goals and three assists. He joined Roma in 2024 for a reported £24m and has 12 goals and 13 assists in 81 appearances.
He has represented Argentina at youth level and was an unused senior substitute in a 3-0 win over Chile in September 2024. Named in the initial 55-man World Cup list this summer, he did not make the final 25. Soule signed a five-year Roma deal in 2024, leaving three years remaining, and has said he is unsure whether he will start the season there.
