Matías Vecino, 34, is set to become Celta Vigo's second winter 2026 signing after an agreement with Lazio. According to Superdeporte, he landed in Vigo this morning and will have a medical on Monday before signing and being presented. His arrival coincides with Bryan Zaragoza's move to Roma.

He comes to bolster midfield following the exits of Fran Beltrán to Girona and Zaragoza to Roma. With vast Serie A experience, he offers defensive nous and balance.

This season for Lazio he has played 13 matches, totalling 599 minutes, and provided two assists.

Developed at Central Español and Nacional, he moved to Europe in 2013 and featured for Fiorentina, Cagliari, Empoli, Inter Milan, who paid 24 million in 2017, and Lazio. He has over 300 Serie A appearances and stands 1.87 m.

A Uruguay regular with around 70 caps and World Cup experience, he adds leadership.

Claudio Giráldez sought an experienced holding midfielder after Beltrán's exit to improve defensive solidity and balance. Vecino could be pivotal for a side hovering around the European places in La Liga EA Sports.

He follows Fer López, a Spain under-21 playmaker on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Celta add muscle and experience to sustain Giráldez's project.
