Matt Doherty has left Wolves following the expiry of his contract this summer.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 34-year-old Irishman made 389 appearances over 13 years across two spells, has been hailed by the club as a legend, and stands 16th on their all-time list.
Technical director Matt Jackson praised his longevity and leadership, calling him a true Wolverhampton Wanderers man and a role model for young players. Jackson highlighted how Doherty grew from a raw teenager into the squad’s most senior figure and wished him well for the future.
Doherty joined Wolves in 2010 and broke through under Kenny Jackett, winning promotion from League One in 2013/14.
He then became integral to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side that returned to the Premier League, recorded two seventh-place finishes, and reached the FA Cup semi-finals and Europa League quarter-finals.
He left for Spurs in 2020, had a brief stint at Atletico Madrid, and returned to Molineux in 2023.
Doherty now becomes a free agent.
