Chelsea are into the final stage of their summer now, but there’s still plenty of action to come.
The Blues have signed the players they wanted to sign and sold the bulk of players they wanted to sell. There’s still more business to be done in both directions, but it could all come in a rush right at the deadline as club enter the “poker match” phase of the window.

Nicolas Jackson is a great example. Chelsea are keen to sell him, and have an offer from Bayern Munich. But according to Matt Law’s piece today, the Blues aren’t yet willing to green light the loan move with obligation to buy which has been agreed over the last 24 hours.
The question is over what happens to Alexander Isak. If he makes the switch from Newcastle to Liverpool, the Magpies will be left without a striker with the window closing just days later. Clearly Chelsea think there’s a good chance that a desperate Newcastle, close to the deadline, might offer even more for the striker than Bayern.
There’s even a chance that Liverpool, if they fail to land Isak, could turn to Jackson as an alternative.
As Law says, Chelsea’s intention to hold their nerve is helped by the fact that Christopher Nkunku is “closing in” on a £30m move to AC Milan, which takes any pressure off them to sell Jackson if they don’t like the offer.
“Chelsea are keen to keep as many options open as possible for as long as possible,” Law concludes, predicting a “frantic final few days in the transfer window” for Chelsea, who want to sell Nkunku and Jackson and then sign two players to replace them.
