After Chelsea’s heavy defeat to Brighton last night, the big think pieces have come from journalists at all angles. The one we’ve been most interested is perhaps Matt Law’s, given how well connected he is at the club.

It’s dropped, and has some interesting information on Chelsea’s plan to replace Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea paint themselves further into a corner with coach demands

Law starts by saying that Rosenior’s position is “under threat” – well, now he’s been sacked.

But his exclusive angle is on the plan to replace the English coach. He says that there has already been “discussions about a change of direction,” with Chelsea planning to bring in a candidate “who has proved they could cope with the demands of a big club.”

That’s not a bad idea – we wonder why nobody thought of that before?

The usual candidates are named – Cesc Fabregas, Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola. But realistically, which of them would want the Chelsea job? We’re now a team outside the Champions League, where the manager has very limited power. Top coaches with lots of experience won’t want that job.

In other news…

Rosenior has been accused of confusing his players with too many instructions and in-game changes.

Chelsea’s players are a huge part of the problem at the club – they aren’t willing to put their faith in Rosenior, and they don’t care that it’s self-harm.
