Matteo Guendouzi completes Fenerbahçe switch and bids emotional Lazio farewell | OneFootball

Lazio have confirmed Matteo Guendouzi has joined Fenerbahçe on a permanent transfer, the club said in a statement.

The French midfielder endeared himself to supporters with his tenacity and competitive edge. Maurizio Sarri had spoken of building around him in the years ahead.

Directors opted to accept a suitable offer from Türkiye to register capital gains and strengthen the accounts to avoid another summer transfer ban. The move followed weeks of negotiations.

Figures were not disclosed. Earlier this week reports indicated Fenerbahçe had lifted their bid to €28 million plus €2m in bonuses, with Marseille believed to be due around 10% via a sell-on clause.

Guendouzi bade an emotional goodbye at the Stadio Olimpico after Wednesday’s draw with Fiorentina. In a video on the club’s YouTube channel, he thanked fans for their welcome since day one, recalled arriving with his family, said he had always given his all for the shirt and that Lazio would remain etched in his heart.
