Mauricio and Flaco fired Palmeiras into the Paulista final after deciding the Choque-Rei against São Paulo. Abel Ferreira’s side managed the occasion with authority.
Mauricio struck early from Vitor Roque’s neat pass, then Flaco López buried the second from a Piquerez cross, a worked routine. According to Globo.com, it was Palmeiras’ most solid display of the year.
São Paulo’s main threat came via a debatable penalty, otherwise Palmeiras restricted clear chances. Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel was largely untroubled, his assured distribution and handling standing out.
At the back, Murilo won his duels with Calleri and led the side in tackles. Gustavo Gómez was steady, while Khellven offered balance and picked his passes.
Andreas Pereira knitted play and pressed aggressively. Allan had a quieter outing on the right. Vitor Roque harassed defenders and linked well as a pivot.
Felipe Anderson and Arias featured when São Paulo pressed for parity, limiting their attacking impact. With sharper finishing, Palmeiras could have settled it before the interval. The contest only grew tense after the contentious penalty award.
