Stephen Eustáquio has become the heartbeat of Canada’s World Cup run, with his brother Mauro reflecting in Toronto on a defining moment.
According to O Jogo, Mauro recalled the goal that announced a new Canadian hero and spoke about their conversations after the midfielder’s decisive display against South Africa.
Canada used home advantage in the group stage, posting their first ever wins at a finals. Their midfield had already lost Koné to a serious injury against Qatar.
They then beat South Africa in the first knockout round, where Eustáquio, still belonging to FC Porto, settled it in stoppage time and spared the prospect of extra time.
The finish intensified the growing cult around him as Canada continue to make history. Mauro added that Stephen has had to make professional decisions to be at his best, and they were not easy.
