Speaking (via kicker), Bayern Munich Director of Sport Max Eberl has commented on what they will expect in their Champions League tie against Celtic.
On reigning Scottish champions:
“Celtic is a force at home, RB Leipzig also lost there,” “We are going there, we have great respect and we know what this stadium can radiate,
Adding:
“That can lead to a special energy. We have to know what to expect: a good team and a very enthusiastic environment,”
On how he expects Celtic to players, Eberl said:
“They play very directly and physically, we have to be prepared. If they win the ball, it will happen quickly,”
Eberl has previous experience at Celtic Park as former club Borussia Mönchenglabdach also travelled there for a Champions League group game back in 2016, where the visitors won 2-0 thanks to goals from Lars Stindl and André Hahn. This also spawned the ‘A German team’ meme after a pub owner in Glasgow was unable to spell die Fohlen’s name.
The last time Bayern went to Celtic Park was a year after the Gladbach game where the Rekordmeister won 2-1 with Kingsley Coman and Javi Martinez both getting on the scoresheet.
While in the new league phase of the Champions League this season, Celtic have won one and lost one against German opposition. First, they lost 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund in Germany before dismantling RB Leipzig 3-0.
