With less than 12 months remaining on his current Bayern Munich deal, Dayot Upamecano’s future is uncertain. The French defender has interest from other European clubs, but the Rekordmeister want to convince the 26-year-old to sign a new deal beyond 2026.

Speaking prior to Bayern Munich’s flight to Cyprus ahead of Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League game against Pafos, board member for sport Max Eberl discussed the situation.

“I’m not surprised that many clubs are interested in Dayot. We’re also interested in extending his contract. It takes time, like the other contracts last year. We’re trying to conduct the talks and convince him of the Bayern project. We definitely want to keep him.”

Bayern Munich have been trying to tie Upamecano down to a new contract for some time, but as reported back in May, the two parties are still far apart in their financial expectations.

Both Bayern and Upamecano are still very interested in extending their cooperation beyond next season, but the central-defender is also aware of what Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich – all of whom have signed recent extensions – are earning.
