According to The Standard, Chelsea are in early talks as they pursue Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, with their interest advancing.

Lacroix is believed to be open to a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are signing Atalanta right-back Marco Palestra on an initial six-year deal, with an option for a further year.

He features prominently on Chelsea’s list of summer centre-back targets, ahead of Como defender Jacobo Ramon.

Lacroix is at the World Cup with France. Palace are under no financial pressure to sell the 26-year-old, who assumed greater responsibility after Marc Guehi joined Manchester City in January.

He has spent two full seasons at Selhurst Park, making 70 Premier League appearances.

Chelsea are open to selling an England international of their own this summer. Trevoh Chalobah is available for the right price, with Como having made their interest known.

Right-back Malo Gusto faces an uncertain future and has been linked with Manchester City, where former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is set to succeed Pep Guardiola. Gusto worked under the Italian at Stamford Bridge.
