According to L'Équipe, Paris FC captain and midfielder Maxime Lopez has ruled out playing for Algeria, issuing a clarification on Monday.

He replied to a tweet from a supporter discussing an Algeria call-up, saying it had never been under consideration. He added he had only answered interview questions and that the rumours were false.

He was referring to comments made in November 2025, when he said he would accept a call-up from Algeria if it came.

Lopez said he holds great respect for the Algerian national team and its people, and wished them well for upcoming fixtures and especially the World Cup, scheduled from 11 June to 19 July.

Born in Marseille, Lopez represented France at youth level, including the under-21s, earning 13 caps between 2017 and 2019. He has Algerian roots through his mother, who is from Bejaïa.
