Arsenal have been warned not to make a move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins after his miss versus Cardiff City. The Gunners plan to spend big on a new centre-forward this summer and the Villain is on the shortlist.

Arsenal made a late move for him in the winter transfer window but failed with a swoop. There is every chance that they could return for his services next summer.

He fancies a move to North London to join Arsenal. He is a massive fan of Arsenal and would be open to testing himself at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Pundit Roy Keane has warned Arsenal inadvertently to avoid a move for the England international.

Watkins was guilty of missing a massive chance to open the scoring in the first half as Villa took on Cardiff City in the FA Cup. He was through on goal but spurned the opportunity. Keane believes such misses define Watkins’s level.

“It’s just the decisions when you are in the box because I think that he had enough time,” fellow pundit Ian Wright said (via The Mirror).

“You can clip that over the trailing leg, because… when you are doing your football training, you know you have got to lift something because if you try and place it you have got to be so accurate…”

“I like Watkins, I think he is a really good player. I think he is a threat, but maybe this is his level,” Keane replied. “I know he has been linked with other clubs, but sometimes you go ‘maybe you are not going to be that top, top striker’.“

Arsenal should not listen to Keane, who can be over the top with his criticism. Watkins is a decent striker and gives the Gunners a cutting edge in the opposition box. He is far better than Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Dismissing Watkins based on a single missed chance would be shortsighted. He has proven himself as a consistent goalscorer in the Premier League, offering pace, movement, and a strong work ethic – qualities that would suit Arsenal.
