Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chukwuemeka spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, and made it clear his preference was to return to the Bundesliga outfit this summer.

The 21-year-old made 17 appearances, and scored once during his loan spell, but boss Niko Kovac has admitted he’s a big fan of the midfielder.

Borussia Dortmund agree deal with Chelsea for Carney Chukwuemeka

Dortmund had a loan offer with an obligation to buy rejected, with Chelsea describing that offer as “insulting,” but Romano has revealed an agreement has now been reached.

He took to X.com and said:

“Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund, here we go!

“Deal done and plan confirmed. Chelsea to receive fee around €25m with add-ons and heavy sell-on clause also included, key in the deal.

“Anselmino (loan) and Carney (permanent) both will undergo medical on Monday.”

Chuwkuemeka had attracted interest from other clubs, but he’s now got the move he desperately wanted, whilst Chelsea have sold a player they’d been looking to move on all summer.

The Englishman joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in a deal worth around £20m in 2022, but injuries plagued his time at Stamford Bridge, and he only made 32 appearances for the club.

Chelsea face busy final week of the transfer window

It’s great news the Blues have managed to sell Chukwuemeka, but they still have plenty of work to do as the window heads into the final week.

Chelsea are still looking to offload Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell.

Nkunku and Jackson are especially important as they have a direct impact on Chelsea being able to complete deals for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho.

The Blues want to add the attacking duo to their squad, but they now face a race against the clock as the pair wait for Chelsea to sort out the future of Nkunku and Jackson.
