The Corinthians forward Memphis played down talk of a potential World Cup meeting with Brazil, insisting the Netherlands must first get through the group stage after a 2-2 draw with Japan.

He came on after 25 minutes of the second half for Donyell Malen and had a quiet outing, finishing with a yellow card.

“We are not thinking about that now. Unfortunately, we drew the game. I think we played well. We should have left with the win and now we prepare for the next game. We are not focusing so much on who we will face if we go through. First we need to make sure we go through.” He told TNT Sports.

Brazil are in Group C and the Netherlands in Group F. In the first knockout round, the winners of Group C play the runners up of Group F, while the Group F winners meet the Group C runners up.

That means they could face each other in the second phase if one tops their group and the other progresses in second. All knockout rounds are single-leg ties.

Both sides opened with a draw and have two group matches left. Brazil face Haiti on Friday then Scotland next Wednesday. The Netherlands meet Sweden on Saturday and Tunisia the following Thursday.
