FC Bayern will be restructuring its sporting management team in its youth academy. Michael Wiesinger, 53, will be joining the FC Bayern Campus on 1 May from the Nürnberg academy as sporting director. Wiesinger was head of the youth section at Nürnberg and will take over the position in Munich from Markus Weinzierl (50), whose contract runs until the summer. Discussions are being held about his future.

Jochen Sauer, director of youth development: “The Campus is becoming increasingly important at FC Bayern. This is reflected in the playing time our young players are getting with the first team, especially Lennart Karl. This also means more work for us in our day-to-day activities. We’re planning successful steps into professional football for more and more players. To meet these requirements, we have gained an experienced youth manager in Michael Wiesinger. Michael has done a successful job at Nürnberg for many years and we are convinced that with him we will be even better positioned for the challenges of the future than we already are now.”

Michael Wiesinger: “I had a wonderful time as head of youth development at Nürnberg. Now I’m very much looking forward to the exciting task of playing a responsible role in talent development at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Born in Burghausen, Wiesinger played professionally for two years for the record champions between 1999 and 2001 before going on to coach several clubs, including Nürnberg, Ingolstadt and Elversberg. Since the 2019/20 season, he has been head of Nürnberg’s youth talent academy. From May, he will now be responsible for sporting matters at the FC Bayern Campus under Sauer.
