Michael Carrick has left the door open for late transfer business at Manchester United as the club approaches Monday’s deadline, insisting circumstances could yet force movement in the final hours of the window, as reported by BBC Sport.
United had been expected to strengthen this month, but the decision not to redirect funds following their failed pursuit of Antoine Semenyo has limited activity so far. Carrick, speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Fulham, adopted a measured tone when asked about potential incomings but refused to rule anything out.
“Never say never,” the interim head coach said. “A lot can happen, and situations can be thrown up. Sometimes it’s in our control, sometimes not.”
The conversation has gained renewed momentum following confirmation that Patrick Dorgu will be sidelined for several weeks, prompting suggestions United may look to add cover. The club have also been linked with midfield reinforcements, including Al-Hilal’s Ruben Neves, though no formal approach has been confirmed.
Outgoings remain a possibility too. Joshua Zirkzee continues to attract interest from Juventus, but Carrick confirmed the forward is fit again after a minor injury and available for selection this weekend.
Carrick also acknowledged that Bruno Fernandes’ long-term future remains a consideration, with the captain expected to review his options at the end of the season. For now, however, the focus remains on short-term stability, with Carrick emphasising calm and belief as United look to maintain their recent momentum on the pitch.
