Miguel Borja leaves Boca door ajar as River contract nears expiry

Miguel Ángel Borja, whose River Plate contract ends on 31 December, said “No le puedo cerrar las puertas” about a potential Boca Juniors approach if Juan Román Riquelme were to call, speaking to ESPN, a stance that drew pushback from some River fans on social media.

“Hay que escuchar cuál es la oferta y qué dice Román”, said one of his brothers, a declared Boca fan.

Borja stopped short of a categorical refusal, keeping his options open as he considers his next step.

The 32-year-old joined River in 2022 under Marcelo Gallardo. After Martín Demichelis arrived, he impressed, establishing himself among the leading scorers.

With Gallardo back, the former Olimpo forward lost ground and was booed in his recent appearances.
