"It was real. I spoke with club officials, with 'Chelo' Marcelo Delgado," said Miguel Borja. He told ESPN Colombia.
"My brother, who is a Boca supporter, later said, 'I was about to get you into Boca'."
"When doors open for you, it is the product of work. What was done in Argentina, the goals, the titles, is something beautiful. I take pride in saying those great institutions knocked on my door. I was close."
The contact with Marcelo Delgado came late in 2025. After failing to agree a new deal, Borja left River Plate on 31 December as a free agent, having played 159 matches and scored 62 goals.
He now plays for Al-Wasl in the UAE Pro League in the United Arab Emirates. Borja has not ruled out Boca in the future, and he had previously been near to joining before his move to River.
