Miguel Trauco, who spent three seasons at ASSE from 2019 to 2022, has been suspended on a precautionary basis by Allianz Lima, one of Peru's most popular clubs. Team-mates Carlos Zambrano and Sergio Pena have also been suspended, following a rape complaint filed in Argentina.
The Buenos Aires police said a 22-year-old woman lodged the complaint on Wednesday, and prosecutors have opened an investigation, appointed a specialist sex-crimes unit and ordered medical examinations.
The woman alleges she was assaulted on 18 January at the Hyatt Centric hotel in Montevideo, the Uruguayan capital, where the Lima club had been on a pre-season camp that concluded on Sunday.
Trauco made 72 appearances and scored two goals for ASSE. He joined the capital club last summer after spells in MLS and Brazil.
The former left-back has denied any criminal wrongdoing and said he is ready to cooperate with the authorities. The case has caused a stir in Peru.
