Milan appear to have made up their mind about their new sporting director and are on the verge of appointing one of the first candidates for the job, Igli Tare.
According to Matteo Moretto, the parties have reached a verbal agreement. The exec is ready to ink a three-year deal with €800k wages. The former Lazio was backed by consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic from the get-go. CEO Giorgio Furlani tested the waters for multiple other options before going back to square one, Calciomercato informs.
Tare has a strong relationship with Milan exec Geoffrey Moncada, with whom he’ll collaborate on picking the players. The apical official will have the final say in most matters. The newcomer approved the structure. He’ll be tasked with making additions with a high ceiling and handling the locker room.
Per Alfredo Pedullà, the Rossoneri made a final attempt to free up Tony D’Amico from Atalanta but were rebuffed. As for the bench, Maurizio Sarri’s candidacy loses steam because the two clashed at Lazio. Vincenzo Italiano is a real target, but Bologna offered him a renewal and think he’ll accept it. Moreover, they’d have to negotiate with them even if he didn’t.
Barring further surprises, the hiring will arrive just in time not to be too late and before the formal start of the coaching carousel. The early rubber stamp of the ownership legitimized him. Still, the way Furlani conducted the process made it look like he wanted anybody else but him, and eventually caved because he couldn’t lure other directors under contract. His tenure at Lazio tailed off at the end, but he did a lot with little at the beginning.
